Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
With its sweeping selection & satisfactory servings, Izakaya Ieyasu seems like a solid bet for Japanese fare in Avenue K.
Ramen might be Ieyasu’s raison d’etre, specifically the tsukemen variation, in which thick, dry noodles with a hefty bite are coupled with a choice of savoury dipping sauce – options range from traditional sesame, soy or miso to more unusual curry or even tomato-&-cheese sauces. About RM25 before taxes per serving.
Prefer rice? Ieyasu does hearty bowls, heaped with muscular slices of barbecued pork (RM18) or chicken & egg (RM22).
Like pate in our hands: Can’t resist Ieyasu’s chicken liver spread, especially when a serving with toast costs only RM12.
Battle of aquatic invertebrates: Firefly squid pickled with vinegar & sake (squishy-briny), vs. fried octopus (crunchy-chewy).
Snacks galore for the peckish: Spicy cod roe spring rolls, spit-roasted meat skewers & mushrooms with butter.
There’s one factor that’s helped to make Avenue K more alluring in our eyes over its neighbour Suria KLCC in the past year: Most of the restaurants here feel a lot more liberated in serving cocktails, whiskey & wine.
