We recently popped in at the always-impressive Entier, one of the Michelin Guide-recognised outlets participating in GastroMonth. With its focus on modern French dining, Entier is easily among Kuala Lumpur’s best restaurants, and the incredible views from the 41st floor of the Alila Bangsar building (featured image) match the delicious and masterfully presented cuisine, too. They’re featuring a very nice set lunch throughout the month of June, and the restaurant was doing a brisk midday business when we took our seats on a sunny weekday.
The GastroMonth lunch special is a five-course affair (RM288 nett) that starts out with a tantalising trio of amuse bouche offerings anchored by a freshly shucked Iwagaki rock oyster, topped with local Tanjung Malim-sourced caviar, quail egg, and calamansi dashi. This, along with the other two treats, serve as a great start to the meal.
The soup course features a winning corn soup which we found difficult to stop eating! Alongside the soup, there’s a creative breaded and fried baby corn with parmesan and truffle. Entier’s delicious boule of housemade bread is also served, along with truffle and sea salt butter.
Diners get a choice of mains – a gorgeously presented beef bourguignon or a grilled grouper and tomato dish. Though both are quite tasty, we might have to give the win to the seafood choice, as the beef dish might be a bit too heavy for some at lunchtime. But the portion size is excellent and you’ll never see a more beautifully plated beef bourguignon. The braised beef cheek is irresistibly tender and the red wine jus complementing the meat, together with the adornment of carrots, mushrooms, and potatoes, makes this a comfort dish with unrivalled panache. Just beware the food coma that may result!
Dessert is a twin affair, with a lovely tropical-themed treat comprising pineapple sorbet, mango compote, and velvety, light coconut espuma. We loved this one, but the second one got our attention, too. Served tart-style, this dessert featured a poached peach with bee pollen, along with honey ice cream, pistachio, and a decadent white chocolate whip. It was light, not overly sweet, and a perfect finish to the leisurely meal.
One thing to know about Entier is that they have one of the best wine lists in the country. It’s very impressive, and we can imagine going back just to avail some of the special wines – many of which are quite reasonably priced. Their lunchtime special, however, has what we think is a great little mini wine list for guests who might not want to be overwhelmed by their book-format main wine list! For just RM68 nett, diners can choose two glasses of wine from an abbreviated list that includes red, white, rosé, and sparkling options. We chose a French sparkler from Languedoc, and a plush red negroamaro from Italy. The negroamaro isn’t the best-known grape, but it’s a scene-stealer, and this affordable wine offers great value and drinks beautifully.
Be sure to visit Entier or any of the other participating Michelin Guide-recognised restaurants by the end of June. More GastroMonth 2024 related information available by CLICKING HERE.
