Review: WIP on the Park

This post is brought to you by Skippy’s Pizza.
Although you can get pizza at any time of the day, you will be hard pressed to find pork toppings such as pepperoni or bacon in Greater KL.
But now you can have your fill of pork pizza at Skippy’s Pizza – the restaurant run by the husband-and-wife team of Marc and Fay, which is making a name for itself with its pork-centric thin-crust pizzas and other food choices like burgers, ribs, pasta, and lamb.
Launched as a home delivery service four years ago, Skippy’s Pizza goes by its tagline “The real pork pizza company” is now a cosy establishment at Phileo Damansara 1. The idea for Skippy’s was born after Marc Lippert and Fay d’Cruz Lippert identified a niche for pork-based pizzas in the market. Skippy’s was named after one of their former partners – because he taught them valuable lessons with regards to food quality – and serves comfort food that is delectable and made with real pork.
We started our porcine journey with Skippy’s best-selling pizza, Meat Lovers, topped with bacon, ham, pepperoni, minced pork, and barbecue sauce with a distinctly Australian flavour, and Skippy’s Loaded Pizza, which as its name suggests was loaded with toppings such as bacon, ham, pepperoni, sausage, anchovies, olives, onion, mushrooms, and bell peppers. All pizzas are available in either in 9 or 12 inches, and are made with thin crust, topped with cheese and generous amounts of quality porkylicious ingredients.
Next, we got our hands dirty as we dove into Pork Ribs in Seven Sauces. Using homemade sauces, each piece of the pork ribs were well-marinated and infused with the glistening sauce. The sauce, thick, rich, and flavourful is similar to BBQ sauce, only slightly sweeter and tastier.
Urged on by the aroma of good food wafting from the kitchen we went for the Pork Burger with Fries and what really won us over were the fries, lightly dusted with chicken salt – it was so addictive that we kept going back for more. The burger, like many other dishes at Skippy’s, is a huge portion and can easily be shared by two persons. The no-frills pork burger didn’t disappoint as the patty was fresh and tender, while the flavours exploded with every bite. The last dish, which I feel has the potential of becoming a real crowd-pleaser is the lamb cutlet. The lamb, cooked to perfection using various spices was delectably aromatic, and combined with cheese, it was heavenly. Best eaten when it is piping hot, it is guaranteed to go down well with a beer or two!
