Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
One of the revamped Atria Shopping Gallery’s most promising dining destinations, Pizzolo blends traditional flair with modern flourishes to hit harmonious notes for creative Italian cooking in an open-kitchen setting that’s cheerfully & colourfully casual.
The menu is still in a soft-launch stage, but there’s enough to order for whetting the appetite. Light bites for seafood lovers include tangy trout ceviche in crispy kataifi pastry nests (RM19) & seared scallops with creamy avocado tartar (RM25). In the weeks ahead, expect other enticing additions like whipped foie gras butter toast (RM19), golden-fried ravioli with four cheeses (RM16), spicy chicken balls with peri-peri sauce (RM16) & crab cakes with lemon garlic aioli (RM19).
With a name like Pizzolo, the restaurant’s forte is unmistakable: Pizzas with tantalising toppings. We tried two – one with scampi & roasted garlic bulbs (RM37) & another with roasted lamb shoulder (RM35); both showcased capably balanced flavours & textures in servings suitable for sharing. Other potential highlights include beef with Brussels (RM32), charred salmon belly (RM39), crispy spinach with caramelised onions (RM26) & sweet cranberry jam with savoury cheeses (RM26).
Inventive strands run through several pasta offerings too, such as the linguine with stroganoff-inspired chunks of tender beef (RM28) & ravioli stuffed with blue crab meat (RM37). You’ll also find a respectable range of mains like pan-seared duck with orange extract (RM43), black mussels in spicy cream sauce (RM37) & crispy chicken roulade stuffed with mushrooms (RM32).
La dolce vita: Desserts include crepes with luscious ice cream, fruits & nuts (RM21). The best may be yet to come though: Pizzolo is also promising an upcoming contemporary cheese selection – cream cheese logs with crushed pistachios & honey (RM15), oven-baked brie with orange glaze (RM17) & whipped goat’s cheese with dried cranberries (RM19).
Check out Pizzolo’s own-curated cocktail list – a compact selection that includes the potent Milan Twilight (RM28; dark rum, amaretto, pineapple & mango mix) & Venice Sweets (RM28; gin, apple sour, soda, sweet & sour mix). Predominantly Italian wines are also well worth trying – the sommelier’s choice is RM23 for reds & whites, but you could explore the mezzanine for well-priced bottles, mostly between RM80 and RM180. Many thanks to Pizzolo’s friendly team for having us here.
