Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
A Taiwanese-inspired cross between a private kitchen & a coffee bar? Malaysian couple Damien Chong & River Ho have created a singular space in a SoHo suite in Bangsar South, open four afternoons a week – it’s a calm, intimate hideout where the welcoming husband-&-wife team can genuinely interact with guests, serving a compact selection of home-cooked fare & freshly brewed beverages made with Taiwanese-roasted blends. Chill out indoors while Blossom Dearie’s jazzy voice wafts out of the speakers, or grab one of M-Ti-Cup’s books on Van Gogh to browse outside on the sunny sixth-floor balcony
Damien & River prepare only a couple of hot dishes per day, which may include a wrap with chicken, egg & buttered mushrooms, or pesto pasta with thyme-grilled chicken breast (the food averages out at about RM20 a portion), cooked in the tiny kitchen with heart & care, resulting in a satisfactory lunch. Finish up with creamy-soft tiramisu, tinged with rum & kahlua.
Coffee is thoughtfully crafted too, from the mellow Sumatra Gayo ice drip coffee to the smooth Ethiopian Yirgacheffe pour-over. Housekeeping notes: M-Ti-Cup can comfortably seat fewer that two dozen people, so call in advance to make a booking.
