Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Fling a stone in Subang’s SS15 neighbourhood & you risk hitting a cafe (or a cafe visitor – eek!); thankfully though, there’s no need to sift through a pile of pebbles to uncover an understated gem like Flingstones Cafe, a venue that’s as fun as its name.
Come for the chilled-out vibe, stay for this crispy pork lard capellini, a mildly spicy, moderately smoky mix of wok-fried angel hair pasta with chu yao char, bacon & cherry tomatoes (RM16) that’s a commendable cross of Italian & Oriental flavours. It’s already a cholesterol spike on its own, so be irresponsible & request an additional fried egg to make this more of a pleasure.
Flingstones’ consultant chef has ties to Sri Hartamas’ Riblees, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see well-prepared pork ribs here, char-grilled with a sweet-sticky plum sauce, served with chunky-tender sweet potato fries. RM26 for the half-portion above; in hindsight, we should have simply paid RM33 for a full serving, since we easily polished this portion.
Flingstones’ interpretation of affogato (RM16; nicknamed ‘Smooth Criminal’) is not only topped with Haagen-Dazs ice cream but cushioned with grass jelly too for extra texture. Customers can also enjoy Gula Melaka banana cakes by independent baker Petiteserie Desserts to accompany Flingstones’ thoughtfully executed coffee.
