15 New Restaurants To Visit In KL & Selangor: December 2014
You can view a list of our most recent new restaurant features here. This is part of a monthly series.
1. Mizuiro Ramen + Coffee
Mizuiro is a name to remember – this new Japanese-inspired cafe in Bandar Menjalara specialises not only in surprisingly wholesome ramen, made with a mix of unbleached flour & rye, & Maruyama coffee but also one of KL’s most delicious desserts, a rose-scented watermelon dacquiose that’s the closest thing in our city to the signature dessert of Sydney’s famed Black Star Pastry patisserie.
Address: 49, Jalan 9/62A, Bandar Menjalara Kepong, 5220 Kepong

2. Underground Societe
From Solaris Dutamas’ Coffee Societe to Bandar Sunway’s Garage 51, brothers Kar Wai & Kar Heng have consistently been near the forefront of the Klang Valley’s cafe fraternity for nearly three years, working hard to push the envelope a bit further with each of their outlets. Their latest labour of love – Underground Societe – represents a natural evolution of their brand & a forward-thinking peek at what the future might hold for Malaysian cafe fans.
Address: 68, Jalan PJS 11/7, Bandar Sunway, 46150 Subang Jaya

3. Vladimir’s Place
If you’re interested in encouraging gastronomic diversity in KL, this new Russian restaurant is worth a stop. Much of its food is reassuringly rustic, with a true-to-its-roots ring of soulful honesty. Our best bet here so far is the classic ‘herring under a fur coat,’ a chilled, eye-catching salad with perky flavours. layered with diced salted fish, boiled beets, carrots, potatoes & mayo, but we also like the ‘giblets in a pot’ – this innard-inundated recipe throws together chicken liver, heart & gizzard with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes & cream, creating comfort food for frosty Siberian winters & stormy Malaysian nights.
Address: 32, Jalan Inai, Off Jalan Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur

7. OW:L Espresso
Korean ‘bingsu’ is the star attraction at OW:L Espresso, indulgently smooth & well-tuned in flavour. Varieties include Injeolmi with glutinous rice cakes, Milk Fat, Cookies & Cream or Yoghurt & Fruit, but we like the unique cross between bingsu & affogato, crowned not only with azuki beans but ice cream, & served with a shot of espresso.
