Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
You Ai aims to attract dim sum devotees with an array that spans chiefly the classics & several contemporary concoctions.
Our favourite orders were the steamed pork dumplings capped with salted egg yolk for some savoury creaminess (RM5.20), bacon balls blanketed with tender cured meat (RM6.90), traditional fried carrot cake heaped in a bowl with its smoky flavours intact (RM6), & fried D24 durian puffs, crisp on the outside, flowing with warm, potently pungent-tasting custard within (RM8).
Numerous choices, with nearly 20 steamed dishes on the menu; we sampled the Shanghai xiao long bao (RM6.90; adequate if XLB cravings must be satiated), plus prawn-scallop dumplings (RM6.90), ‘Phoenix’ meatballs made with pork, prawns, mushrooms & salted egg yolk again (RM5.20), Teo Chew dumplings (RM5.20), & prawn dumplings in vinegar sauce (RM6.90).
The fried fare encompasses eye-catching meat rolls wrapped in battered eggplant (RM6), deep-fried prawn puffs with the punchy uplift of pickled ginger (RM6) & pan-fried ‘pipa’ beancurd cakes (RM5.20). Many thanks to You Ai for having us here.
