Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Perched high up on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel KL, SkyBar KL gives you an amazing panoramic view of the city’s skyline as you sip on delicious cocktails and nibble on an array of scrumptious snacks. This exclusive bar has been around since 2006, and has gone through many design and menu changes over the years. SkyBar offers a bar at one end serving the best drinks, a pool in the middle, sunken booths, and day beds next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, which offers a magnificent view of the PETRONAS Twin Towers. It defines ultimate relaxation.
The delightful food menu at Sky Bar KL is a mixture of light and heavy snacks. The signature, or the “must-try” dishes are SkyBar’s Signature Buffalo Inferno Wings (fried chicken wings tossed with barbeque sauce and crushed black pepper), Crispy Barbeque Beef Rib’s (braised short ribs with chili garlic vinaigrette) and the Spiced Crusted Calamari (golden fried squid rings served with fries and cilantro aioli). The delicious food can be enjoyed all day and night. A drink is a must when hanging out at SkyBar KL so take your time and choose your poison from the incredibly long list of cocktails cooked up by the resident mixologists. The resident mixologists at SkyBar KL are responsible for inventing all the ridiculously-delicious cocktails you find on the menu. The bar has also seen the likes of international mixologists like Thomas Anostam, Mirko Cattini, Ben Ng, Kelli K Barnett, Johan Alenius and Cameron Northway.
Some of their signature cocktails are; Raised in Manhattan (a combination of sweet Rosso Vermouth and Canadian Club Rye Whiskey infused with dark raisins), Selangor Sling (Tanqueray Gin and Cherry Brandy Liqueur shaken with pressed pineapple juice, fresh lemon juice and a touch of Angostura Bitters, topped with soda and a Benedictine D.O.M. float), Kiwitini (fresh kiwi mixed together with Belvedere Vodka, a dash of sugar and topped with Moet Champagne), Lychee Rose (Belvedere Vodka and Lychee Liqueur, with a hint of rose syrup) and Mata D’ Or (Passion Fruit together with Pomegranate syrup and Red Bull.) The wine menu is extensive enough to excite any wine aficionados! White, red and the all-important bubbly, SkyBar also has a few recommended ones that you should try; Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc, D’Arenberg Olive Grove Chardonnay, Chandon Chardonnay, Antinori Peppoli Chainti Classico and Domaine Chandon Shiraz.
The price in SkyBar KL for food, cocktails and wine list is…reasonable! The lowest for food is RM12++, while the most you will spend is RM45++. For drinks, be prepared to spend anywhere between RM25++ to RM39++ for a glass of your preferred drink. If you are on a budget, then visit the place during happy hours (11am-9pm) to enjoy special discounts on their cocktails and beers.
The music in SkyBar can be described as chill, lush house music most of the time, except on special theme nights; Wednesday (Girls Night Out with DJ Herb), Thursday (Old School with DJ Deraj) and Friday (Mingle Jingle with DJ Herb). Jazz music is usually played during the day, but the volume will be on low, to allow patrons to converse without shouting. The place also turns into a party joint – with people dancing – on Friday and Saturday nights, and the night before a public holiday, where more club songs are played.
SkyBar is located inside Traders Hotel KL, which is just opposite KLCC. If you’re going by car, then you can park at the hotels parking lots. The bar is also easily accessible by public transportation. Take the LRT (train) to KLCC station, after that it’s just a short walk to the hotel. Expats living around the KLCC area can also choose to take a short cab ride to the hotel. If you haven’t been to SkyBar in KL, then make it a point to do so. For a truly relaxing experience, SkyBar is just what you need for a good day or night out.
