Review: WIP on the Park

Get cosy on beanbags & gobble up a good meal – Tossed is cranking up the charm & cheer in Jaya Shopping Centre.
Tossed founders Haerris & Ronald have crafted a crowd-pleasing menu with carefully tuned notes; the Western selection spans three salads (our best bet is the plate of tender, tasty lamb leg chunks on a bed of fresh leaves, feta cheese & balsamic reduction for RM19.90) & multiple customisable pastas (fusilli, fettuccine or spaghetti in tried-&-tested preparations like chicken in creamy basil pesto, prawns in spicy aglio olio sauce or minced beef in bolognese, mostly between RM17.90 & RM20.90).
Everything we tasted was capably cooked, but Tossed performs particularly well for local favourites like nasi lemak, fragrant & flavourful, complete with prawn sambal, fried chicken & condiments (RM16.90), & flat rice noodles with juicy beef spare ribs in a sweetly robust broth & kitchen-made chilli paste (RM21.90), all constructed on a solid foundation of shipshape ingredients.
Tossed takes pride in recipes that Haerris’ family has guarded for generations; his mom hails from Johor, so it’s no surprise that the southern state’s staunchly loved version of laksa a should-try here – onion-&-cucumber-garnished spaghetti soaked in slowly-simmered ‘ikan parang’ fish gravy that’s gratifying to the final savoury slurp. RM16.90, served with a potent sambal.
We’re also admirers of Tossed’s lightly tangy tomato stew with creamy balls of potatoes mixed with minced chicken – total comfort food, with a convincing balance of flavours & textures (RM16.90). Enjoy with Tossed’s fun repertoire of beverages: rich choc hazelnut shakes (RM12) to refreshing cranberry-tinged teas (RM10). Many thanks to the Tossed team for the hospitality.
