Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Stubborn Joe is no average-Joe cafe; founded by a husband-&-wife team who practise interior design & architecture, it’s a visual feast. Joe & Veronica have created a space with a striking sense of meticulousness, right from the sumptuously photogenic walls – one with a ‘no man is an island’ figurine-lined theme, facing another filled with black-&-white construction blueprints – to the ravishingly intricate floor tiles & the furnishing of a vintage family TV set, rotary phone & other heirlooms.
Stubborn Joe’s menu is extensive, comprising no-fuss fare – platters of rice with egg & sweet-sour fish (RM12.50 nett) & corned beef sandwiches with fries & salad (RM12.90), plus packets of Mee Hoon Siam & nasi lemak, alongside soups, basic pastas & more. Try the tong sui (RM3.80) – it’s made fresh daily in recipes rotated throughout the week; we had the red bean version when we visited, but patrons on other occasions can enjoy sweet potato or gingko fu chuk barley tong sui. For coffee, Stubborn Joe relies on Spanish-origin Catunambu packaged beans. Service is friendly, helpful & enthusiastic.
