Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
This gelato joint occupies an unexpected spot; it’s the only F&B outlet on the grittier end of Jalan Berangan, tucked amid a row of old flats that have seen better days, a few minutes’ walk from the gentrification-fuelled restaurants of Changkat BB & Mesui. Not too much foot traffic here, so it could entice customers who crave a placid reprieve from KL’s crowded ice cream parlours.
Jersey Jack relies on Jersey milk from Kuala Selangor’s Bright Cow dairy farm to whip up a wide range of tempting flavours – the most surprising one fuses elements of salmon & wasabi, combining a mellow smoky-brininess with the mild tickle of horseradish. We like Jersey Jack’s overall sense of ambition, with a repertoire that leaps from pistachio to pink champagne, Amarena cherries to chilli-ginger-lemongrass, Bailey’s to rum-raisin, Madagascan vanilla to New York cheesecake (RM12 for a single scoop, RM20 for a double). Some flavours work better than others, but it’s somewhat subject to personal preference.
Gelato on the streets? Look out for Jersey Jack’s vending tricycles roaming in the city centre. The main outlet also offers other specialities such as sorbets (flavours include coconut with green tea, plus wild berries, mango, basil strawberry, pineapple, passionfruit & more). You can also ask for the gelato to be served as shakes, or have it in sundaes or with waffles & pancakes.
