Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
This Taiwanese seafood chain invaded Malaysia this month, landing in Oasis Ara Damansara, PJ’s current hot spot for hearty eating and heavy drinking.
Golden Coast Shrimp works for casual, communal meals. Service is amiable, space is abundant.
Not surprisingly, shrimp steals the spotlight here, hefty ones prepared in styles including buttered (our pick) or with pepper, garlic, sesame oil or lemon. Each plate costs RM60-RM65, comprising what seems like more than a dozen juicy crustaceans.
Marvelous Mantou
Marvelous ‘mantou’ bread to mop up the sauce. Hot and fluffy-fresh, with a golden-crisp exterior.
The menu’s limited for now, but black pepper crab and spiral-shell sea snails also feature on it.
Bonus shrimp and seafood stop: The Hokkaido summer food fair that started its run this week at Isetan KLCC’s FoodMarket (operating July 12-22).
Everything here’s expensive, but the RM50 for rice topped with a bounty of sea urchin, prawn, salmon roe and flying fish roe supplies a whole lot of satisfaction.
Hokkaido ramen with scallops, prawns and corn clocks in at over RM40; two can share this.
Chestnut-flavored Hokkaido milk ice cream (RM12), washed down with a little sake.
Numerous other attractions at the Hokkaido food fair, from cherry blossom rice cakes to ‘sekihan’ sticky red bean rice to fluffy cream puffs.
