Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Its name might sound explosive, but Cherry Bomb Coffee – a moniker that serves as a nod to coffee cherries – is a calm hideout that’s meant to evoke the feeling of home; it’s a real labour of love by Azrein Zainal Abidin & her husband Rastam Toh.
Plenty of natural light pours into this spacious, couch-filled cafe on one of Menara See Hoy Chan’s hidden corners, a five-minute drive from KLCC on Jalan Tun Razak. Kick back, play a game of chess or Monopoly, or have a chat with Azrein or Rastam. Azrein’s a Hawaii-trained former psychology tutor, business development exec & writer, while Rastam’s an ex-DJ & prevailing photographer; you’ll find their creative fingerprints all over Cherry Bomb, where poetic posters line the walls.
The menu is compact but the servings are hearty, with ever-evolving choices like croissants tinged with seaweed & swollen with chicken floss (RM12) & oxtail stew with carrots & celery, a monthly special when we visited Cherry Bomb in October – the lateness of this entry stems from our crisis of backlogged blog posts.
Wrap up your sure-to-be-pleasant visit here with a fresh-tasting waffle, cranberry-blackcurrant muffin or house-made muesli, washed down with thoughtfully prepared coffee or an affogato constructed with caffeine-free rooibos tea espresso.
