Peter & Mawar at Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara: Snapshot

Peter & Mawar is clearly a labour of love, blooming with quirky artistic details in its decor. The menu seems thoughtfully considered too, with some unconventional enticements – pastas include ‘rotini’ corkscrew pasta with ‘smetana’ sour cream & salted egg yolk soft-shell crab.

But when we saw Sarawak laksa on the list, we ordered that first; sadly, it proved really oily, with prawns that could have been fresher.

We then skipped straight to dessert, opting for the cafe’s interpretation of ‘pisang goreng cheese’ – also in need of better ingredients & execution, missing a punchy sweet-salty wallop of flavour.

There could have been teething issues with the kitchen (this visit was a few months back), but we hope that Peter & Mawar has since secured the right team to implement its ideas for a rosier future.
