Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Proving that some cats truly do have multiple lives, Cat In The Box was reborn recently at Empire Damansara, moving more than a whisker away from its Jaya One birthplace to a new habitat that’s purr-fect for patrons in pursuit of pies & piccolo lattes.
This is a beautiful cafe, brilliant for photography, with a warm, woodsy interior that’s soaked in sunshine during the daytime, when the calming view of Damansara Perdana’s suburban foliage through the metres-high windows is at its most impressive.
Soothingly spacious & brimming with character, with lots of corners to explore & enjoy, plus a spiral staircase that leads to a rooftop that’s expected to eventually house Cat In The Box’s barbecue section. Cafe owner Amber & her partners have clearly poured plenty of heart & soul into this place.
Cat In The Box backs a diverse range of locally based F&B entrepreneurs, offering the likes of a Gula Melaka nut tart (RM8.50) baked by a German expatriate who has lived in KL for several years, as well as red velvets & banana choc chip cakes crafted by the two Malaysian sisters who make up Little Tee Cakes.
As well as Callebaut chocolate mocha brownies crowned with the ever-lovable Fatbaby Ice Cream.
Cat In The Box’s own-made fresh-tasting treats, mini dessert bites (RM5 for two pieces) in flavours like peanut butter & jelly or rocky road. Savoury specialities are also available – beef pastrami sandwiches (RM15) & chicken-potato pies (RM8.50).
Don’t skip Cat In The Box’s signature cold brew, which takes 24 hours to prepare with East Timor beans. Smooth & enjoyable in flavour, offered either as an Americano or latte (RM12 or RM14), pairing well with lemon chai or pecan spice cookies (RM2).
Purchase a ceramic mug for RM25, & RM5 goes to Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better; who says cats & dogs don’t get along?
