You think you’ve seen it all, but then a durian snowskin mooncake with a green exterior emerges; and you begin to question everything – that’s pretty much how we feel right now. What was once a traditional dessert filled with red bean or lotus paste and baked to golden-brown perfection has now evolved into almost any flavour imaginable. Some of the funkier flavours include things like Ferrero Rocher, Musang King Durian, Red Bean Paste with aged Mandarin Skin, Special XO Sauce, (another) Baked Durian with Single Yolk, and a Red Velvet rendition, among others. Whether you prefer the traditional baked types or more modern snowskin specialties, here’s a list of where to get mooncakes in KL this year.
Mooncake boxes are anything but just boxes anymore. The Westin Kuala Lumpur has created an LED light box in the whimsical theme of Moon Dream this year, for instance. You can also listen to your favourite tunes while savouring their festive treats, as the YUÈ mooncake gift set comes in the form of a bluetooth speaker. Choose from seven traditional baked mooncake flavours to fill your selected boxes – Pearl of Harmony, Pearl of Prosperity, Low Sugar Plain White Lotus Paste, Low Sugar Plain White Lotus Single Yolk, Green Tea Cranberries, Pure Red Bean Paste, and Five Sen5es Supreme Mixed Nuts. All box types are priced to include four mooncakes. A classic Westin box and a YUÈ box are priced at RM148 each, while the Premium LED Light Box is RM168.
