Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
KL’s coffee nomads are on the move again, transforming yet another unexpected venue into an oasis of flat white fantasies. This is no mirage – stride into the showroom of Johnson Tiles in Telawi and you’ll find the latest home of pop-up purveyors Outcast Coffee.
This soothing two-storey space, featuring cosy corners that feel like a cross between a home, a cafe and a gallery, showcases Outcast’s penchant for cultivating intriguing spaces with character and charm. It’s a cool counterpoint to the bustle of Bangsar – customers are welcome to come in, order a bite or drink, and relax with their friends or tackle some work.
Outcast fans will be encouraged to know the team now has its own house blend, an easy-drinking trinity of Kenyan, Ethiopian and Sumatran beans, with light chocolaty undercurrents rounded by a toasty finish, ideally enjoyed white (RM10; customers who work in Telawi are entitled to beverage discounts). The pop-up’s popular soy or coconut lattes also remain available.
Food possibilities include fresh pies like tuna-and-cheese or chicken-and-mushrooms, lovingly prepared by a PJ-based home baker; other options include tempting spiced pecan loaves, assorted sandwiches and distinctive cakes.
You can also purchase Outcast’s coffee beans to bring home, as well as English Breakfast, Earl Grey and Lemongrass Ginger tea bags by Roleaf.
