Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
People who live in glass houses shouldn’t drink bad coffee: At first blush, this handsome new caffeine bar – bathed in sunbeams in a leafy, two-level setting – looks like it’s been conceived solely as a superficial decoy for social media shots.
But The Glass House, run primarily by New Zealander Glen and his Malaysian partner Elaine, is determined to be a draw for earnest coffee enthusiasts, enticed by an evolving selection of single origins and blends by respected roasters from across the globe.
Check out the current secret stash of offerings from Indonesia’s Tanamera and Australia’s Market Lane — Glen travels to Jakarta regularly, and he was formerly a barista in Melbourne before coming to Malaysia in 2014 – best served as filters (pretty satisfying), though espresso-based beverages are also available.
As an opening promotion, all coffee (including pour-overs) will be sold at RM5 per serving through next week, following which flat whites and cappuccinos will be RM10, with filters and lattes at RM12. By mid-2016, The Glass House hopes to cement its status as a multi-roaster cafe with seasonal, monthly-changing coffee sourced from the UK, Scandinavia, Japan and beyond. Simple snacks – pastries, sandwiches and cakes – are in the pipeline.
