Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Masala Wheels started as a food truck that sold South Indian and Sri Lankan specialities in the city while also offering free meals to the homeless. This year, it launched a full-fledged eatery in one of PJ’s old residential neighbourhoods, dishing out banana leaf rice on weekdays, home-cooked temptations by a Sri Lankan matriarch Saturdays, and earthen pot biryani Sundays.
A basic banana leaf rice set that costs RM8 is more than sufficient to satiate cravings for curry-soaked grains and tender spiced vegetables. After adding substantial portions of crab, mutton varuval, and crispy fried chicken and bitter gourd, the bill should clock in at RM30. The food is capably prepared, conveying easy-to-recommend flavours that are pleasantly mild and mellow.
