Michter's Whiskey Making a Name for Itself in Malaysia
May 12th, 2025
Offering 22 dishes at RM2.50++ each, Bangsar’s new BAE seems like a boon for economically precarious times: The menu features familiar favourites from Malaysia and our Southeast Asian neighbours, offered in tapas-style portions – choose from servings of rice (such as nasi lemak, nasi pandan, nasi perang, nasi telang and nasi goreng sambal), noodles (including Indomee goreng, assam laksa, soto ayam, mee Siam and mee kuah ketam) and sides (boneless ayam masak Bali, ceriping ikan, bayam and more).
Three servings should suffice for a reasonable lunch at a total cost of RM7.50; six servings would be a fulfilling dinner for RM15 – not bad for a contemporary eatery in Telawi.
Flavours are competently tuned, with sambals that pack a fiery punch, plus sauces and soups that prove fragrantly spiced – each recipe is a mini version of the real deal. Ultimately, this is a fun way to savour a variety of temptations in one meal. As its name reflects, the restaurant is run by very much a youthful team.
If you’re willing to fork out more, the kitchen also offers larger dishes such ayam goreng berempah (RM14.90), beef satay (RM16.90 for five sticks) and lamb shank mysore (RM42.90).
BAE shares its space with another concept-driven business, Maerry:Me, which specialises in crowd-pleasing Malaysian beverages that can be served in two-drinks-in-one partitioned ‘kahwin cups’ (RM11.20++) – select from enjoyable flavours like Soursop With Yogurt Balls, Milo T-Rex, Soya Cincau Selasih, Lychee Ribena, Cendol and many more.
