Leave it to the experts who’ve served thousands of baked eggs in the past three years – The Red Beanbag might have been the ones who introduced KL’s new generation of brunch devotees to this now-beloved dish. Here, the eggs are cracked into a baking dish of lamb, beef & chicken bratwurst, a triumph of taste & texture with sun-dried tomatoes, aubergine, potatoes & cheese.

Duck eggs are baked to an ultra-rich creaminess, laced with Aussie spinach & paprika, flavoured with garlic sauce – a nice change from the tomato-tangy baked eggs at most cafes.

You may have tried dozens of baked eggs by now, but there have never been baked eggs like Ecole P’s ‘Three Emperors’, an East-West innovation laced with bits of salted egg yolk & century eggs for a flavourful Oriental flourish, plus sausage meat & pumpkin cream, served with lovely fresh bread.

Metal Box’s baked eggs are beautifully creamy, thick with potatoes, eggplant, cannellini beans & smoked chicken breast in lightly tangy tomato coulis, crowned with freshly grated gruyere cheese. Certain to brighten up any morning, but customers can even order this at night – Metal Box serves brunch fare right until closing time.
