Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
A worthwhile destination for Teochiew traditional cooking, brought to Sri Petaling by the Lim family, whose matriarch oversees recipes they’ve served to customers in Ipoh for over two decades. Their first outpost in KL opened this year, offering classics galore, from sour plum soups to steamed & stir-fried staples, with a smattering of Hakka and Hing Hua favourites in the mix too.
Come ravenous to savour a whole heap of comfort fare – we scarcely scratched the surface, but our favourite orders were the Teochew kailan pot (RM14; a flavour-packed vegetable broth with chunks of tender pork, encapsulating the essence of time-honoured home-cooked cuisine), fried porridge (RM16; thick, nourishing soul food that’ll nurse a broken heart) and pan-fried pomfret with garlic chips (seasonal price – so satisfying; we could happily have this perfectly cooked fish over & over again).
The menu is extensive, with dozens of dishes that range from seaweed soup to soy-braised duck with eggs, crispy fish fu chok to nam yu fried pork loins, apple vinegared chicken to chai poh omelette to ginger fried rice, wan tan hor to claypot loh shi fun.
