Review: WIP on the Park
April 28th, 2025
Our next stop marks an established brand that we’ve tracked since its earliest incarnation in Ampang’s Persiaran Ritchie: Artisan Roast. Artisan abandoned its original outlet, but every branch it’s since launched has successfully carved fresh niches, in the TTDI indie-hipster scene, Bangsar Village’s sparkling-mall setting, and now, most impressively, a cavernous cafe in Petaling Jaya.
Artisan Roast PJ opened this weekend, a work in progress with renovation forging ahead, but serving coffee and cakes nevertheless. This looks to be Artisan’s flagship hangout, spearheaded by a bevy of the best baristas that passion can produce.
Try the filtered Rwandan or Kenyan. It might change your mind about what coffee can be.
The Last Polka’s latest flavors are available here: A wondrous Wonderland of butterscotch and black pepper (one of The Last Polka’s greatest hits, absolutely amazing) and Green Eggs and Ham (peppermint with choc fudge).
(Kita) Punya Colada, a remarkable riff on the Pina Colada, a tropical fruit trinity of coconut, pineapple and even jackfruit (!), plus an effervescent Root Beer ice cream.
Nice news: Hot breakfasts should be offered here starting next month. Artisan Roast PJ is nestled in a warehouse-like space somewhere behind Jaya 33.
Entry on Artisan Roast at Ampang: March 6, 2011. TTDI: Feb 6, 2012 and Feb 10, 2012. Bangsar Village: August 13, 2012.
