1. Ecole P at Damansara Utama

Start with some of the most inventive waffles in the Klang Valley – Ecole P serves Hong Kong-style egg waffles in a Western presentation. Have them filled with strawberry sauce, topped with Kapiti vanilla ice cream, strawberries, green apples and oranges, or filled with Nutella and peanut butter sauce, topped with Kapiti triple chocolate ice cream, honey stars, marshmallow, dark chocolate pearls and Oreo crumbs.

2. Thirdwave at Bangsar South

Thirdwave’s waffles are subtly osmanthus-infused, crispy on the edges, crowned with New Zealand’s Kapiti vanilla ice cream, ‘mysterious flowers,’ berries and bananas.

3. Standing Theory at SS2 Petaling Jaya

4. Kaffeine at Plaza Damas 3

The Belgian waffles menu here is noteworthy: Try this savoury one, tinged with kimchi for a Korean twist. Bits of fermented veggies add an interesting edge to these well-prepared waffles.

5. Chequers at Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Savoury or sweet? Have both: The Moo Moois basically a waffle burger, with sirloin beef patty, cheddar, slaw, relish, crispy bacon and berry BBQ sauce, while the Tiramisu at Chequers comes with espresso and wonderfully fluffy waffles.

6. Madame Waffle at Mid Valley

Waffle combos available for a light, refreshing teatime treat (in between shopping or after catching a movie) include the signature green tea waffle with matcha gelato by Gelatomio, strawberries, whipped cream and azuki beans and the coffee waffle with tiramisu gelato, coffee-whipped cream and strawberries.

7. Vvaffle at Jaya One

Brioche dough with Belgian pearl sugar form a balanced batter for Vvaffle’s fresh-tasting, well-textured offerings. Our favourite so far is this: Waffle with white chocolate, pure vanilla cream and Nestum flakes, the warmth of the waffle well-teamed with the cool, softly sweet toppings.

8. Whimsical at Solaris Dutamas

The waffles at Whimsical prove yeasty-tasting, per its founder’s preference, hearty with vanilla cinnamon gelato, strawberries, lashes of chocolate ganache and almond flakes.

9. S.O.C. Snow Or Coffee at Wangsa Maju

S.O.C.’s waffles are well-prepared, delivering the right balance of crunch outside and fluffiness within. The options for chocolate and strawberry ice cream could be too limited (whither vanilla?), but for RM6.90, we liked it fine (and finished every bite).

10. Frisky Goat at Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Poached eggs are served with a difference at Frisky Goat, atop a fresh-tasting Belgian waffle and partnered with seared salmon, sauteed mushrooms and an eye-catching, tomato-tinged hollandaise sauce.
