Playful pizzas, plump sandwiches, pleasurably indulgent snacks: The World Is Flat, a Singaporean-born set-up, has taken over the kitchen of The Bee in Publika, putting its own twists on diner-and-deli temptations.

It’s all in the bread

Start with the pizzas, with nine varieties in personal and 12-inch servings – we’re in lust with Butcher’s Love (RM24 for personal), a meaty, saucy treat that’s loaded with shaved roast beef, chicken ham, charred onions, portobello mushrooms, mozzarella, monterey jack, cheddar and truffle mayo on a crisp and fresh malted brown butter crust; everything comes together flavourfully in each bite, the hallmark of a crowd-rousing pizza.

Sandwiches are also worth breaking low-carb rules for – the Pastrami Melt (RM30) is a hits-the-spot extravaganza of tender house-cured beef layered with mushroom tempeh, honey butter, Russian dressing and more cheese in warm rye toast.

More mains

Our pick of The World’s pastas is tossed with white truffled mushrooms and topped with a whole slow-cooked duck leg confit, with garlic bread on the side (RM40).

5. The World Is Flat at The Bee-min

It’s a hearty main course, but save space for the Spam Wham! (RM28), a guilty indulgence of thinly battered, tastily seasoned chicken luncheon meat fries, richly blanketed in (deep breath) capsicum guacamole, sour cream, garlic glaze, torched marshmallows and melted cheese – it may sound like overkill, but it’s pretty irresistible from the first mouthful.

For lubrication, order The Bee’s Gin Tonica with black peppercorn and grapefruit peels.
