The Hawker Street strives to be a credit to Penang; it received a reasonable measure of endorsement from our companions who were born on or studied on the island, making it a serviceable stop for customers who crave northern comfort cooking.
The menu remains limited; assam laksa (RM6.90) tops the list, hitting the right notes for harmonious proportions of tangy, sweet & savoury nuances. It does kinda take us back to 1999, to the backstreets of Georgetown on a Sunday afternoon.
Curry Mee comes topped with cockles & prawns for RM6.90 too; if you feel like a splurge, the Premium Hokkien Mee is loaded with prawns, pork spare ribs & boiled egg slices for RM17.90. There may be a nagging sense that the food could stand to still be more robust; the broths tend to be light. Snacks include lor bak (RM4.90) while pat poh herbal tea is the beverage highlight.
