Ramadan meals at The Mines, where you can break fast with family and friends

Nothing brings Malaysians – of all races – together like breaking fast during Iftar (at the end of a day of fasting during Ramadan). But where to eat? Fortunately, The Mines Shopping Mall has some great Ramadan promotions so you can all enjoy, from traditional Malaysian favourites, such as Kelantanese Nasi Kerabu to Ayam Percik, to western treats, like salmon steak.

1. Fish & Co.

At Fish & Co., all seafood is prepared the way Mediterranean fishermen cook: freshly caught fish, simple and straightforward, cooked with wholesome ingredients like olive oil, herbs and various spices. It’s all served in a rustic, nautical ambiance.

This restaurant is offering a special Sunset Meal Menu this year, which features local favourites ayam goreng and their signature seafood, served in a silver pan. The Sunset Meal Menu is available as a Set for 2 and Set for 4 option with prices starting at RM22.50 per person.

2. Pizza San Francisco

Pizza San Francisco was established in 2002 to provide KL with a fusion of flavour – from American dishes to traditional Italian cuisine –  including steaks, salmon, pasta and pizzas.

Ramadan Promotion: Pizza San Francisco is offering a free bowl of soup and a serving of kurma with any main course order from selected dishes.

Customers can choose from: Oven-baked rack of lamb in honey mint sauce served with roasted potatoes; Baked salmon steak with vegetables in cream mustard sauce or vinaigrette sauce; ‘Santa Barbara’, rolled chicken meat stuffed with cheese and turkey salami; Grilled lamb chop in mint / black pepper sauce, served with potatoes and vegetables; and ‘Mushroom Chicken’, deep-fried chicken baked with cheese, served with fried mushrooms and french fries.

3. Makan Culture

The Mines Shopping Mall now has Makan Culture’s third restaurant in Malaysia. Offering Asian fusion food, breakfast, brunch, dinner and variety of sweet treats, the brand is the latest concept by Sakura Kristal Restaurants, who have 10 years of experience in the industry.

A traditional Nasi Kerabu dish from the Kelantan comes to you from Makan Culture. It’s served with a spicy twist, served with their signature Ayam Goreng and Seafood Curry sauce for an extra kick. The main comes with fresh cut fruits and crispy Cucur Sayur as starters, or try the crispy deep fried whole chicken thigh or the Rendang Chicken.

4. Teh Tarik Place

Teh Tarik Place was founded in 2007 by two food-loving best friends with a dream of opening an ‘affordable local makan space’ and with the aim to pay homage to all things local. For a natural hit of goyang, try the signature Green Tea Tarik Goyang, with its incredibly green colour, sweet and creamy taste and touch of refreshing bitterness.

During Ramadan, traditional Malaysian flavours come served with your choice of rice, include Nasi Khobuli, Nasi Tomato, Nasi Briyani & Nasi Kerabu. They are served with tasty sides on a bain marie dish with sweet bubur, like bubur jagung and bubur pulut hitam. These set meals start from RM13.50 nett.

5. Sepiring

This place offers a variety of Malaysian meals, all under one roof. For example, dishes include the Nasi Kunyit with Curry Chicken, which contains turmeric glutinous rice served with chicken curry, and the Chicken Satay Burger, which has chicken thigh satay in homemade satay sauce, plus cucumber, cheese and breaded onion rings on a charcoal sesame seed bun.

Ramadan Promotion: The special Syawal Platter, at RM59.90 nett, includes ayam percik, rendang ayam kunyit, chicken satay, sayur lodeh, keropok lekor and kerabu kacang botol. It is served with with a large bowl of nasi lemak pandan, and during Ramadan, customers can enjoy two free hot desserts with any purchase of the Syawal Set when they present this article to Sepiring at The Mines.

6. Secret Recipe

Founded in 1997, Secret Recipe has become one of the fastest growing café chains in Asia, with over 440 cafés in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Maldives.

Ramadan Promotion: Available from 6 June to 31 July 2016, all day long, you can enjoy Secret Recipe’s Raya Platter – of crunchy crumbed chicken, spicy sambal shrimp, chicken satay and a side of butter rice and salad – plus an Iced Apple Tea for RM 24.90.

In addition, the Buka Raya Special allows three guests to enjoy a la carte main meals and receive one free set of Satay Chicken, plus complimentary Rose Syrup and Kurma for every customer who dines in. This promotion is available from 6 June to 5 July 2016, 6:30pm – 8:30pm daily.

7. The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS )

The Chicken Rice Shop offers a choice of steamed, roasted, honey barbecued or soy sauce chicken served with flavourful rice cooked to fluffy perfection in a wholesome chicken broth.

Ramadan Promotion: Celebrate the holy month of Ramadan with TCRS’s new limited edition Ayam Berempah Istimewa, starting from RM15.90. Diners will receive complimentary vouchers with any Ayam Berempah Istimewa set meal purchased.

Set A for one person costs RM19.90; Set B for two, RM46.90; and Set C for four, RM86.90. The promotion will run from 6th June to 31st July 2016. Those who purchase the Raya Set C option can enjoy one Crispy Wanton for RM8.90 (normal price RM10.55).

8. Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul

Tan Teik Fuang learned how to make chendul in Penang Road back in 1936, following the ethos that a local favourite can stand the test of time. By 1977, Tan Teik Fuang’s fourth son, Tan Chong Kim, was growing the business across the country – even though the dessert’s original home in Lebuh Keng Kwee is still serving customers to this day.

Teochew Chendul serves the timeless Malaysian dessert chendul, with shaved ice and fresh pandan-flavored palm flour noodles immersed in light coconut milk. It’s sweetened with Gula Melaka and kidney beans.

Also available are Penang Assam Laksa, the tangy fish gravy soup, which was ranked the 7th most delicious food in the world by CNN, and Penang Curry Mee, with its yellow egg noodles, curry soup, chilli sambal, string beans, fried tofu, fresh prawns and cuttlefish.

9. Nyonya Mama

Nyonya Mama specialises in homemade kuih and similar delights, which aim to “bear the great authentic taste of the past”.

One of their signature dishes is Mee Jawa, made of yellow noodles, with a spicy slightly sweet curry-like gravy. This dish is garnished with a hard-boiled egg, calamansi lime, red chillies, bean sprouts, fried firm tofu, and spring onion.

Another dish to try is Nasi Lemak Sambal Sotong, which contains fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, served with sambal sotong (chili squid) and various garnishes, including fresh cucumber slices, fried anchovies and a hard-boiled egg.

10. Little Wok Kitchen

Ramadan Promotion: This restaurant’s Ramadan special is for seafood lovers: it’s a two-person combination dish called Wok Steam Seafood. It comes with fresh flower crab, prawn, lala and squid, accompanied with two bowls of rice plus broccoli, corn and potato.

11. Häagen-Dazs

Since 1961, Häagen-Dazs has been scooping out delicious ice cream. Natural ingredients, such as fresh cream, milk, egg yolks, and sugar form the basis of all the ice creams and are rounded off, depending on the recipe, with cookies, fruit, nuts, and sauce.

Ramadan Promotion: Häagen Dazs has announced two limited edition shakes, the Apricot Lavender Shake and Lychee Raspberry Rose Shake, both of which are available during the Ramadan period, 6 June – 8 July. Also on offer is a limited edition Chocolate Fondue which comes with 16 mini scoops of ice cream in 4 flavours paired with two coffees or teas of your choice.
