With a name that evokes the sumptuousness of classical Chinese cooking, this elegant restaurant furnishes a feast of effectively prepared recipes, becoming a popular choice this year in Sri Petaling’s increasingly crowded neighbourhood.
Grand Shanghai Banquet takes pride in signature offerings like this Fish Head Claypot, bubbling with a milky broth of fish & pork bone that has been simmering for hours, with slices of grouper & bean curd cast in for the final minutes of cooking, combined with mushrooms & vegetables for full-bodied robustness. RM48++ for a serving that several customers can share.
Seafood ranks among the restaurant’s recommendations – both the tender baked prawns in sweet-sour sauce (RM35++) & juicy assam seafood (RM35++) elicit a flavoursome wallop, bolstered by scrumptiously tangy dynamics & creamy dimensions.
Meat matters: The steamed chicken is enjoyably smooth & spicy (RM14.80++), while the braised pork belly with brown sauce & mantou is irresistibly slick & succulent (RM28++). Vegetables aren’t an afterthought – the stir-fried kailan is deftly done, with the unmistakable sweetness of rice wine in the sauce (RM15.80++). Thanks to Grand Shanghai Banquet for having us here.
