Review: Ministry of Crab
March 16th, 2025
If we worked in Q Sentral, we’d be pretty pleased that Gwaku opened recently in this office building, offering lunch specials from both East and West that seem to change daily to keep everyone excited each afternoon.
On our visit, a tender roast leg of chicken with potatoes, carrots and peas (RM13.90) was the popular choice, sold out by 1pm, leaving stragglers with ayam masak merah, begedil, acar nanas-timun and rice (RM9.90; add RM3 for a sambal hard-boiled egg and RM1 to upgrade to brown rice). Soul food to match the Malay-language meaning of Gwaku’s official pronunciation (Jiwa Ku).
You’ll also find an array of kuih-muih, from bingka ubi, lepat pisang and pulut panggang to cucur badak and talam seri muka. We like the kuih ulat bulu, a glutinous creation of yam, mung beans, coconut, sesame and peanuts.
