Gold Bar has the potential to be a pleasant, laid-back hangout for craft beer and wine. For now though, the kitchen needs tweaks; we ordered one of the top temptations on the menu – beer siew yok (RM28) – anticipating luscious roast pork bolstered perhaps by robust malty flavours.

But the meat teetered on toughness and was marred by an offensive gamy taste. Maybe the other beer-laced dishes fare better – you’ll also find chicken wings with cheddar cheese beer sauce and spicy beer garlic prawns.
