This story is brought to you by Chapter One. Somehow, we never got around to asking anyone why this fresh, new bistro and bar was called Chapter One, but that’s only because we were busy enjoying the procession of delicious food streaming out from the kitchen.

Chapter One at Desa Sri Hartamas

DSC_0110 Chapter One is set back in an inviting square of shoplots in Desa Sri Hartamas and feels welcome and inviting from the moment you walk in. Open and airy owing to its double-lot size, the space is great whether you want a tipple after work, want to shoot some pool, catch the latest match, or like us, are just seeking a tasty meal served up in a convivial and casual setting. Starters Menu

The starters menu is tantalizing, to say the least. From venerable bar favourites like classic Buffalo wings and crispy fried calamari to delicious fare such as stir-fried pork and lamb bangers served with onions and chillies, you can eat well (and get pretty full in the process) without even venturing past the opening section of the menu! For lighter bites to start, diners can opt for a fresh garden salad, a healthy grilled chicken salad, or a tasty cream of mushroom soup. DSC_0168

Spaghetti

We tried the classic Spaghetti Carbonara from the pasta menu and found it deliciously rich and satisfying. Another tempting dish featured spaghetti with homemade pork meatballs, but we skipped that one, not wanting to fill up solely on pasta with so much variety on the menu. DSC_0161

Sea Bass

One tasty find was the Pan-seared Sea Bass served with grilled veggies, mashed potatoes “Lyonnaise,” and a red pepper coulis. DSC_0170

New Zealand Lamb

Another treat we sampled from the varied mains menu was New Zealand Lamb. Available as either a braised shank, grilled chops, or grilled cutlets, if you’re craving lamb, Chapter One will be sure to satisfy with one of these three dishes. Potatoes make another appearance here, and as Chef Yogi told us, Chapter One’s tasty mashed potatoes are made in-house from USA Russet potatoes. DSC_0178

Roasted Pork Knuckle

However, the clear winner of the entire meal was the mouthwatering Roasted Pork Knuckle, one of the best I’ve had in KL. Salty and crispy on the outside with a generous amount of tender, juicy meat on the inside, and served with grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, a creamy mustard sauce, and braised apples, this was a pork knuckle knockout, a dish we all kept going back to again and again for “just one more bite.” DSC_0145 DSC_0148

Desserts

I’m not sure how, but we managed to save a tiny bit of room for dessert, and it was worth it… we opted for the curiously named Flirtatious Dizzy Lava cake, a homemade chocolate lava cake served with a scoop of ice cream and two cocoa-based sauces, one made with Bailey’s and Kahlua, the other a mildly bitter Guinness chocolate sauce. Nice to share, and a sweet ending to a satisfying meal that very nearly put us all into a midday food coma. There’s no doubt that when you finish a meal at Chapter One, you’ll leave knowing you’ve been well-fed.
