The Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam’s Hainanese curry puff has been honoured with the prestigious Royal Jelebu branding, awarded by Yang Teramat Mulia Dato’ Mendika Menteri Akhirulzaman Datuk Haji Maarof bin Haji Mat Rashad, Undang Luak Jelebu. The recognition ceremony took place at Balai Undang Luak Jelebu in Kuala Klawang.
“We are deeply appreciative of Dato’ Undang’s endorsement of our unique meatless curry puffs. With his support through the Royal Jelebu branding, and his agreement to chair our board, we are confident that we can elevate our curry puffs to new heights,” said Dato’ Dr. Denming Ho, Chief Executive Officer of the Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam Group of Companies.
This royal recognition is part of the company’s broader mission to preserve and promote Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage. The Hainan Village curry puff represents a blend of Malay, Chinese, and Hainanese culinary traditions, inspired by the flavours found on Pulau Pangkor. Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce the Royal Jelebu Hainanese Curry Puff to the global market, with a particular focus on China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and the Middle East.
Expanding internationally, the Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam Group hopes to position this distinctive Malaysian delicacy in a way that will attract both food enthusiasts and tourists to Malaysia.
“We believe our curry puff has the potential to become as iconic to Malaysia as almond biscuits are to Hong Kong or pineapple tarts to Taiwan. The journey began when we searched for one truly Malaysian dish that could serve as a gateway to the traditional flavours of our country. Malaysia’s diverse culinary heritage offers an abundance of choices, but the curry puff was selected due to its widespread availability and the versatility of the recipe,” explained Dato’ Denming.
The Royal Jelebu Hainanese curry puff has been designed as a uniquely Malaysian product for everyone to enjoy. This meat-free delicacy is offered by Malaysia’s first Hainanese Vegetarian Kopitiam, a Malaysia Book of Records titleholder. In addition to receiving royal recognition, this café franchise also enjoys accolades from French Le Cordon Bleu, further establishing its culinary credibility.
The Royal Jelebu Hainanese Curry Puff is available at the Plaza Premium Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and will soon be offered at all Hainan Village Kopitiam Café outlets nationwide.
