Som Tum

Start with som tum – Aroy Nae Non serves no fewer than 12 types (!) of the crisp & piquant green papaya salad, some creamy with salted egg (RM18), others with fermented fish, flower crabs, mixed fruits & more (mainly between RM13 & RM25 a plate).

Keeping it raw: Marinated prawns (RM20), their natural sweetness taking centre stage in a wholesome-looking ensemble.

Abundant oysters with a lot of complements; the molluscs prove relatively bland though – the quantity-over-quality sort. RM18.

Cockles

Better to take a pleasant walk with the cockles, stir-fried in a spicy-tangy basil salad flooded with Thai flavours (RM25).

BBQ Offerings

Aroy Nae Non rates respectably for its BBQ offerings, which range from charcoal-grilled squid (RM30) to pork neck (RM25; succulent – one of our favourites here) to whole tilapia (RM48). BBQ prawns & river lobster are available at seasonal prices.

Even the chicken recipes are intriguing: Check out the chicken knuckles (RM22), fried crunchy cartilage paired with peanuts.

Isan Pork Sausages

Also a brilliant beer snack: Potently savoury, pleasurably plump Isan pork sausages (RM22). Not recommended for dieters.

River Snail Red Curry

Of course, no lack of curries here, like this distinctive river snail red curry (RM20). And there’s still much more on the menu to sample, from spicy chicken feet soup (RM22) to minced pork with seaweed soup (RM16) to deep-fried duck skewers (RM22) to shrimp-&-omelette curry (RM30).

Customers can bring their own wine (the corkage is typical) or have the restaurant’s regular juices & teas.
