A funky and chic restaurant and bar, WIP (Whipped Into Place) has been a favourite hotspot for expats and locals around Bangsar area since its inception in 2007. Back then, it was known as ‘Work in Progress (WIP) to suit its initial concept (construction tape and waiters in overalls), before revamping itself into a stylish, coastal-resort like ambience.

WIP in Bangsar is the brainchild of Fred Choo and Michele Kwok, a husband and wife team, also responsible for setting up Souled Out in Desa Sri Hartamas and 7atenine at The Ascott. The idea was simple; both wanted an alfresco type dining concept, which the expats love, but were limited in KL.

First timers at WIP always find it a treat to take in the features surrounding them; the clam shaped island bar with in-built buckets for champagne and wine bottles, tree trunks, the alfresco dining deck and outside patio area, firefly pendant lights, an elevated dining area with a curtain for privacy, cosy sofas for lounging, high tables and chairs and even a unique bathroom!

Music at WIP is light and easy, not loud. The resident DJ at WIP plays a medley of house and R&B as background music, which gets a little louder at night, especially on weekends. This is no dance club, so don’t expect a spacious dance floor for you to boogie on.
