It’s fast approaching that time of the year again – the best time to sample buffets in hotels and restaurants. If you love Malay food in particular, it is now or never (but who are we kidding). Be warned however that you might need to spend the remainder of the year working it off. Without further ado, we present this list of where to break fast in KL this Ramadan 2018.

Warisan Desa buffet at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur

Feast on traditional heritage dishes a la Chef Budiman at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur this coming festive season. The must-try dishes this year include the Mee kuah putih salmon sambal kering pedas (salmon white gravy noodles with dried chili paste), Sendi berbiri kuah merah tairu bawang putih (lamb shank cooked in red sauce with drizzles of garlic yoghurt), Roasted lamb and other meats, Popiah basah Malay (spiced spring roll), and so much more. Guests will also be able to savour offerings from the other cuisines featured at the restaurant which include Chinese, Indian, Western, and Japanese dishes. The special holy month dinner buffet will see a daily menu change so diners can visit more than once in a week if they wish.

Selera Malaysia buffet at Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

Simply called ‘Selera Malaysia’, diners are right to expect a plethora of Malaysian flavours at The Mill Cafe’s festive spread this year. Featured dishes include Gulai daging salai, Kawah kari kepala ikan, Ayam golek, Nasi hujan panas, Beef rendang, Sotong masak hitam, Whole roasted tandoori lamb, Whole baked sambal ikan siakap, Bubur lambuk, Lemang, Serunding, and the bone marrow specialty pictured above. Diners also have the option of adding on a dome set of dishes that will be served at their table, which is suitable for eight to 10 people.

Citarasa Malaysia buffet at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

If you have never tried, or have a fond memory of ‘roti john’, then make sure to try JP Teres’ yummy version. Besides that, other featured dishes will include local delights like Braised beef curry, Roti canai and naan with tandoori chicken, Lemang and beef rendang, Lamb varuval, Tapioca leaves in coconut milk, and Popiah basah. There will also be live stations serving chicken rice, seafood grilled a la minute, and noodles in soup. A must-try dessert when you’re there is the pandan chiffon cake – dollop on some kaya and a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a satisfying sweet ending.

Kampung Warisan buffet at Bijan KL

Renowned for serving fine dining Malay food alongside wine and spirits, a meal at Bijan is sure to leave a lasting impression. The restaurant will be offering four carefully curated menus on rotation throughout the festive month this year. There will also be a show station where the chefs will cook in the real kampung style – using huge woks and pots. Some dishes to look out for include Laksam, Opor daging, Masak lemak udang tempoyak, Asam pedas, Kerabu ikan pari, and Kerabu nangka isi ketam, among others.

Available from 7pm – 9.30pm daily from 21 May – 13 June 2018. The a la carte menu will be available from 9pm onwards for those dates. Priced at RM100 nett per person via their website, www.bijanrestaurant.com; RM110++ per person otherwise.

Selera Muhibbah at TPC Kuala Lumpur

Round up your family and friends to break fast by the poolside this year. Selera Muhibbah at TPC Kuala Lumpur will feature local fare like Gulai ikan patin tempoyak, Rendang hati lembu, Daging masak merah, Telur itik masak lemak cili padi, Kambing panggang, and Lidah bakar as pictured above. The Straits Festival at VE Hotel and Residence

VE Hotel and Residence aims to create a truly festive ambience at the VE’s Straits Festival. Diners can look forward to dishes like Ayam kurma Navratan, Daging hitam mamak, Ayam briyani, Madras lamb masala, Udang masak merah, Nangka muda masak lemak, Sotong goreng kunyit, and Daging kerutup, to name a few. There will also be live action stalls serving roast lamb, sate, and rojak.

Juadah Iftar Kampung at The Westin Kuala Lumpur

Feast your eyes on this mouth-watering spread above, and know that this is only a small part of what’s to come at The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s Juadah Iftar Kampung.
