Prego, The Westin’s prominant Italian restaurant recently welcomed their new Chef de cuisine hailing from Italy, Marco De Cecco. Chef Marco’s first form of culinary business was to create and introduce to Kuala Lumpur’s continuously-evolving dining scene, the first ever Italian afternoon tea. With afternoon tea famed for being quintessentially English, Chef Marco introducing this entirely new game-changer fits the bill with Malaysians and expats alike who treasure fusion.

“I decided to bring Italy to Bukit Bintang with this new afternoon tea concept. It represents my origins and what I grew up with, adding personal touches from my childhood memories and travels across Italy.” – Chef Marco De Cecco

With a cozy ambiance and views of their wood fired pizza ovens, Prego will now offer the Italian themed afternoon tea from Monday to Saturday at 2pm till 6pm. Aside from the afternoon tea, the restaurant will still offer classic Italian staples like pizzas and pastas all made-to-order.

The traditional thee-tier set consists of both savoury and sweet pastries, sandwiches, and desserts that go along with several choices of freshly brewed tea, or coffee.

The main pastry and sandwich set is served alongside a board of small bites such as flavour-packed Italian calzones, oven-baked black olives, and warm puff pastries of spinach and ricotta.

Starting at the base of the tea set, are  two types crusty bruschetta; one being traditional tomato and basil, and the other with smoked salmon and caper. With the bruschetta sits a rosemary and focaccia sandwich with delicious mozzarella cheese.

The middle tier serves the most melt-in-your-mouth delicate crostoli, which is deep-fried dough dusted with cinnamon sugar. It is a truly simple pastry with the most satisfying appeal. Next to this are crostata di frutta (fruit tarts), and traditional Italian panettone sponge cakes.

The top tier is is where the sweet treats converge; consisting of vanilla panna cotta with berries, sponge cake with pistachio cream, traditional tiramisu that looks so innocent yet packs a punch of rich espresso, and the most indulgent mini cannolis from Sicily, stuffed with ricotta and candied fruits.

Prego’s Italian afternoon tea is priced at a very affordable RM98 nett for two people, and is available from Monday to Saturday at 2pm till 6pm.
