Swich’s newest outpost is a slice of sweet soulfulness in a shopping mall, with a beautiful interior that includes a wall lined with European paintings, a counter full of charming cherubs & cuddly, rainbow-coloured teddies, & at the back of the cafe, a life-sized replica of a tree with a trunk & branch assembled out of planks, furnishing a poetically cool backdrop for a magical meal.

Cakes & more cakes remain the raison d’etre of Swich, but founder CC always has something novel surfacing from her imagination & her ovens – this time, it’s ice cream cakes, born of a mother’s love. CC thought of these because her two sons like ice cream cakes, but she wanted to create versions that taste better – crafted with more carefully chosen ingredients – than supermarket standbys. Plated to order on evocative tableware, these will especially delight lovers of local fruits, with Swich’s own-made ice cream of Musang King durian or Johor-origin cempedak on a dense chiffon base. Compellingly luscious, blessed with a potent fragrance & mellow flavour, lovely in both texture & taste. RM16 for durian, RM15 for cempedak.

Loosen your belts & lose the diet – Swich’s new banoffee cake with whipped Valrhona chocolate cream & Gula Melaka (RM12.90) is an indulgence that’s too insanely delicious to share. We’re also instant fans of the Uji green tea & Callebout white chocolate cheesecake – punchy without being cloying – & the rose lemon cake, a ravishing treat with sumptuous subtleties – French Pamplie butter cake infused with kitchen-prepared natural rose syrup, layered with lemon curd frosting & coconut cream, topped with dessicated coconut & crushed rose petals.
