The Kok sisters are doin’ it for themselves, ringin’ on their own family-run restaurant in a striking warehouse space at an unlikely location, on a street in Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara that’s primarily populated by car washes and auto repair workshops.

Soft-launch menu

The menu remains in a soft-launch phase, with many top temptations still to come (expect an eight-hour-smoked Boston Butt burger, a chorizo bagel and much more). But there’s enough to entice us here now, including the intriguing Fiery Wings (RM18), marinated with Sarawak peppers and Ghost chillies (one of the world’s hottest chilli peppers).

Never fear – the chicken wings prove more pleasure than pain, with a burn that scorches only lightly, signalling that the kitchen makes sparing use of the Ghost pepper marinade. Its spiciness suits us, but since the menu mentions Ghost chillies, we’d have liked it to be more brutal.

Hog hails supreme

The Kok siblings also run a wholesale pork business, so it’s no surprise that the hog strives to steal the spotlight, with crowd-pleasers like hickory-smoked baby back ribs (RM28), carbonara pasta that’s bursting with bacon (RM18) and chicharrons (RM8).
