The Shire Cafe proves as calm & cosy a retreat as its Middle-earth namesake. Spearheaded by a family of Lord Of The Rings enthusiasts – Tan & his two children – this new neighbourhood hideout is filled with fantasy flourishes that include walls touched up with a Tolkienesque map & a Hobbit’s home interior mural where customers can pose for Instagram shots while Howard Shore’s sweeping soundtrack from the movies plays on the speakers.

The Fallen Tower

This LOTR-themed cafe counts a dozen waffles as its most precious offerings; the one to rule them all is the Fallen Tower (RM18), with bread sticks cooked in a waffle iron, wrapped around chicken sausages & cheese, served with scrambled eggs & vegetables – all the ingredients for a second breakfast, paired with a Mazagran (RM9), a mix of espresso over ice with lemon.
