Tucked into the elegant Sheraton Imperial hotel is a classy new restaurant that offers distinctive, authentic Japanese cuisine. Named after its executive chef, Sasagawa is a beautifully sophisticated and chic venue, with seemingly hidden private rooms opening up to provide discreet dining spaces. Dark walls, a large water feature at the entrance and a number of intricate freestanding wooden frames lend a lovely minimalist zen to the dining room and leaves no doubt you are in a top-flight Japanese restaurant.

As for the food, it’s as genuine and delectable as any you’ll find outside of Japan itself. Seafood is flown in at least four times a week, much of the produce and other ingredients are imported fresh from Japan, too, and with a talented Japanese chef helming his namesake restaurant, diners are assured of freshness, quality, and authenticity.

We tried a range of impressively prepared and presented dishes including fresh sashimi, a hot pot set with crab, fish, and various veggies, tender grilled Wagyu beef, tempura-fried prawns and Japanese vegetables, and a very special presentation of a delicious rice and salmon dish.

Set lunches ranging from RM90-120 and more elaborate omakase menus are available, as are a number of à la carte options. For libations, a range of Japanese beers, sake, shochu, and umeshu are on offer, along with a handful of whiskies, wines, and Champagnes.
