Tucked away in a private park in Kuala Lumpur, on the same grounds as Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), Samira by Asian Terrace is a truly authentic Thai-Indochinese restaurant surrounded by peaceful lush greenery and a koi fish pond. The beautiful outdoor terrace allows for fresh air and gorgeous views over the expansive greenery and lake, easily making you forget you’re actually in bustling Sentul with its tranquil ambiance and natural surroundings.

The team of chefs, who originate from Thailand, serve up an authentic flavoursome array of Thai and Indochinese dishes. On our recent visit, we started off with some of their refreshing drinks, the Minty Valley mocktail (RM15), a concoction of lemon juice, mint leaves, mint syrup, and tonic, and Phuket Paradise (RM15) with pineapple, orange, lemon, and grenadine.

We also tried the Last Man in My Life cocktail (RM39), with orange, vodka, tequila, and grenadine.

Our thirsts sufficiently quenched, we started our meal with the Vietnamese Deep Fried Salad (RM28), a crispy yam basket with prawns and lime. The appetizer was savoury and slightly tangy, with a nice crunch.

We also had the Soft Shell Crab in Thai Famous Mieng Kam. Mieng Kam is a traditional Thai starter or snack. Mieng Kam means ‘one bite wrap’, as the dish consists of several condiments (birds-eye chili, peanuts, plum sauce, roasted coconut, shallots, ginger) which you assemble yourself on betel leaves, wrap it up, and take a bite. It was quite fun to make, and simply delicious with a burst of flavours and the right balance of sweet, spicy, tangy, and savoury.

For most people, an indulgent Thai meal must include tom yam! We tried their Traditional Tom Yam Mixed Seafood Clear Soup, which wasn’t too spicy, with an abundance of fresh mussels, prawns, and squid.

We also had the Roasted Red Thai Curry with roasted duck and cherry tomato. The duck was tender and the curry was rich, thick, and flavourful, perfect with steaming hot Jasmine rice.

We finished off our lunch with an array of traditional Thai desserts – Mango Sticky Rice (RM22), Thai Takoh (RM12), and Caramelized Banana with Thai Coconut Ice-Cream (RM24). We enjoyed all three which were freshly made and presented beautifully.
