Royal Salute's Couture Collection Kicks Off with British Designer Richard Quinn

The clever play on words speaks both to Royal Salute’s impressive pedigree – the brand was created in 1953 to recognise the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II – and the collaboration with acclaimed young British fashion designer Richard Quinn, and after the new expression’s exclusive debut in Malaysia at WhiskyPLUS in December 2021, the stocks have now arrived on our shores! And what better way to showcase this premium whisky brand than with a new pairing menu from The Library at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur? It’s an inspired match, and for a time, will be your exclusive chance to sample the new Richard Quinn edition from Royal Salute.
Not only is the 21-year-old whisky inside something to savour, but the stunning flagon is a true work of art, too. The Royal Salute Richard Quinn Edition is inspired by the designer’s unique style of reinterpreting classic flower patterns with a modern and edgy twist. The resulting bespoke and vivid print adorns a limited-edition flagon, available in two colourways, perfectly capturing the creative harmony between Royal Salute and Richard Quinn – balancing the beauty and elegance of rose petals with a contemporary edge represented by thorns.
According to Pernod Ricard Malaysia, the collaboration between Royal Salute and Richard Quinn is rooted in “a shared desire to push their craft beyond expectation.” After all, perfecting the craft of whisky blending is at the heart of Royal Salute, whilst Richard Quinn’s bold, elegant, and emotive style has seen him receive critical acclaim, notably from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, honouring his work with the prestigious ‘Award for British Design’ in 2018.
With leading expertise in the art of blending, inside the eye-catching flagons is an equally stand-out new 21-year-old blend, which has been crafted by Royal Salute’s renowned Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, who personally selected 31 rare single malts and grain whiskies, and all matured for a minimum of 21 years. The resulting Scotch has a remarkable floral and fragrant character, mirroring the lovely design of the flagons, with impressive depth and a pleasing structure of oak and spice.
Each of the two Royal Salute pairing menus features the Royal Salute 21-Year-Old blends: The Signature Blend, Malts Blend, and the limited edition Polo Estancia Blend. Titled the “Spring Sensations Tasting Menus,” the specially curated menus by Chef Wai and the culinary team of The Library offer a four-course exploration of fresh seasonal flavours that aim to complement and accentuate the flavour profiles of each Royal Salute expression. The pairing menu is in-line with The Library’s philosophy of inviting guests to “Journey into The Library” and experience a foray into springtime through dishes from two Spring Sensations Tasting Menus. We were invited to sample the new menu, and while the food itself was certainly good, we were perhaps even more impressed by the outstanding pairing of each course – Chef Wai did a masterful job of crafting each dish to flawlessly pair with the respective Royal Salute whisky.
Available from March 4 onwards for three months, the two menus are priced at MYR350++ and MYR450++ respectively, with the option to pair with a flight of Royal Salute 21-Year-Old blends at a supplement of MYR150++. Additionally, the new Royal Salute 21-Year-Old Richard Quinn Edition will also be available exclusively for tasting at The Library for a limited time.
The Royal Salute 21-Year-Old Richard Quinn Edition is priced at RM1,138 and is available in limited quantities at selected premium retail and liquor stores, e-Commerce platforms, as well as via direct purchase.
