Malaysia’s first stand-up comedy club is ready to tickle ribs & split sides; this is one of KL’s most magnetic new venues, charged with an anything-can-happen electricity that crackles through a cobbled-together setting & rambunctious wisecracks.

1 Crackhouse Comedy Club

The club’s opening week attracted capacity crowds for a multinational parade of funny-men from Malaysia, India, Australia & the United States. The laughter was loud & constant, thanks to a hide-the-children hodgepodge of trusty, testosterone-fuelled jokes about Singaporeans, sex, politics, religion, race, cross-cultural confusion, booze & drugs.

Video Clippings

Here’s one video clip to paint a picture of the atmosphere here, with the spotlight on Jonathan Atherton, who co-founded this club with fellow comedian Rizal van Geyzel & Shankar Santhiram.

One more, a bit out of context: Butch Bradley, headliner for the two-hour-plus shows. The club is now taking a week-long break to assess its four-night opening run, but it’ll be back in action by mid-May. See facebook.com/crackhousecomedy for updates.

Cupcakes

Since this is an F&B review site, attention must be paid to the cupcakes (RM5), the only food available so far. Folks can expect the club to eventually serve ‘jaffles,’ the heartier Australian version of toasties.

Alcoholic Drinks

Argentinian wine is sold for RM15 per serving; the prices match the portions.

4 Crackhouse Comedy Club

Absolut Vodka (with a request for orange juice) & Johnny Walker Black Label (with Coke), both also RM15 each.

6 Crackhouse Comedy Club

Neighbourhood street artists helped to create the scene-stealing graffiti-style murals here (complete with the pesky white rabbit that seems to be leaping into black holes all across Taman Tun) …

7 Crackhouse Comedy Club

… while appreciative audiences assisted in making Crackhouse’s launch a riotous triumph. Any place that sends its visitors out smiling (for a reasonable entry fee of RM35) deserves a mighty round of applause.
