9 restaurants to enjoy your Chinese New Year feast in KL and Selangor

Instead of sweating away in the kitchen to prepare a Chinese New Year feast, you can simply usher in the Year of the Rooster at one of the many restaurants offering special menus and promotions for the festive season.

1. Tao Chinese Cuisine at Intercontinental KL

Tao Chinese Cuisine is going all out with five types of yee sang and four set menus that you can choose from, all prepared by executive Chinese Chef Wong Lian You and team. For the yee sang, choose from abalone, scallops and lobster, soft shelf crab, Atlantic salmon, or tempura mushrooms (Also available for takeaway). For the lunch, munch on either dim sum,  the Abundance set menu, or order from the a la carte offerings. For dinner, enjoy with the Abundance, Prosperity, Fortune, or Opulence set menus. 2. Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant at Concorde KL

Xin Cuisine’s new year specials include, as expected, yee sang (RM78-RM248) and waxed meat (RM45-RM108). Until 11th Feb, you can enjoy their new year set menus ranging from RM1388 and RM1688 for 10 persons for either lunch or dinner. Not forgetting three nian gao treats: deep friend pineapple, crystal, and osmanthus flower jelly nian gao.

3. Five Sen5es at The Westin KL

Another place with loads to choose from, Five Sen5es is offering a selection of fresh yee sang (From RM68 nett), three set menus (from RM1,688 to RM2,088), festive a la carte items, and a dim sum brunch (RM138 nett per person; only on 28th – 30th January, and 4th, 5th, and 11th February). Until 11th February, you can feast on an array of indulgences from double boiled chicken consommé with sliced may to trumpet shell and ginseng, deep fried prawn with avocado salsa, steamed pomfret with bean curd skin and mandarin skin, and more.

4. Shang Palace at Shangri-la KL

Shang Palace has six types of Yee Sang and five set menus for four to 10 persons you can choose from that are prepared by Executive Chinese Chef Tan Kim Weng and his team. There is also an a la carte menu filled with auspicious dishes such as Poon Choy or braised premium assorted hot dish served in a claypot, braised bird’s nest soup with lobster meat and seafood, wok-fried freshwater king prawns with salted egg yolk sauce, and Shang Palace’s marinated crispy pipa chicken, among others. As for the set menu, each come with eight or nine courses. There’s the Great Prosperity Set Menu (RM208 nett per person), Rich Fortune Set Menu (RM372 nett per person), Happy Reunion Set Menu (RM2076 nett per table of 10 persons), Wealth Treasures Set Menu (RM3484 nett per table of 10 persons) and Immense Wealth Set Menu (RM5467 nett per table of 10 persons).

5. Oriental Thai Chinese Cuisine at Pullman Kuala Lmpur Bangsar

The theme for CNY feasts in Pullman KL mirrors that of Chinese New Year: Happiness RM988/table) , Success (RM1,388/table), Prosperity & Wealth (RM1,988/table), Auspicious (RM2,888/table), and Harmony (RM3,988/table). Each feast is a 9-course meal which includes yee sang and a line-up of sumptuous dishes the whole family can enjoy together. Also available are the Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot (RM1,188), Yee Sang Set (RM38) and Reunion Dimsum Feast (RM9.8/item). The prosperity feasts are available until 28th February 2017.

6. Secret Garden at Taman SEA

A feast for the entire family, steamboat-style. You’ll enjoy salmon yee sang and deep-fried salted chicken as starters before moving on to the main attraction, steamboat. The package for 10 persons will come with the Secret Garden Imperial Chicken or Truffle broth, a selection of seafood (prawns, fish maw, clams, scallops), sliced meat, freshly made meatballs and paste, vegetables, and herbal jelly with wild honey for dessert. Choose from either the Classic (RM788 for 10 pax, RM588 for 6 pax) or Premium (RM1788 for 10 pax, RM1388 for 6 pax) packages.

7. a’Roma Dinings at Taman Paramount

If you’d like an Italian feast instead but don’t want to compromise on the yee sang, fret not. A’Roma Dining is serving up their special yee sang with a total of 18 ingredients including bonito flakes, Australian Yellowtail Kingfish, and Avruga Herring roe. Also on the CNY menu will be a special 8-spiced roasted duckling spring roll.

8. Din Tai Fung at Subang Jaya

Start off with their Double Treasure Yee Sang (RM52.80), featuring more than 20 ingredients including a twist of crunchy roasted Almond and Cashew . You can also opt to have jellyfish in your salmon yee sang. Din Tai Fung has also come up with a CNY set menu consisting of a variety of their signature dishes. The set menu starts from RM288 for four persons to RM788 for 10 persons. You can also take home some Din Tai Fung Pineapple Tarts freshly flown in from Taiwan (RM49.80 for 6 pcs or RM69.80 for 10 pieces) as well as their Thousand Layer Cake Gift Box Set filled with steamed thousand layer cakes (RM46 per box). Note: All Din Tai Fung branches will be closed on 27th – 28th January.

9. Royal Canton at DC Mall, Damansara

Until 11th February, you can dig into Royal Canton’s CNY group set menus ranging from RM1388 to RM4888 for 10 persons or individual set menus for RM188 or RM388. The menus are made up of seven to nine courses including yee sang, scallops, roasts platters, fish, bird’s nest with crab meat, steamed rice with goose liver sausage and waxed meat, tang yuan, glutinous rice cakes and more.
