While the restaurant revolves a full 360 degrees each hour, it is only the tables and chairs that move, leaving the inner ring of the buffet stationary. A word of caution: make a note of your table number otherwise you may get lost when getting up for your next scrumptious helping! You may have left your table by the salads only to fi nd it is now next to the live band, which plays between 7.30pm and 9.30pm each evening.

We started our buffet experience with a delicious, piping hot Minestrone soup. This was a wonderful prelude to the seafood starters, which included paella, crabsticks, and mussels. The selection of main courses was extensive and the lamb, carved to order, was so tender it melted in the mouth. The range of hot dishes included Seafood Nasi Goreng, Fried Seafood with Szechuan Sauce, Hungarian Chicken with Paprika, Irish Lamb Stew, and Chicken Teriyaki.

The dessert menu is hard to resist and included a selection of fresh fruit, Chocolate Brownie Cake, Kiwi Charlotte, Chocolate Éclairs, and Strawberry Mousse. The ice-cream bar was very popular with both the young and young at heart.

The restaurant has a warm, relaxed atmosphere, and is child-friendly. It’s an ideal location for a gathering – the evening we dined a birthday party was in full swing.

“The Revolving Restaurant is not only a landmark of Penang, but also the venue where most Penangites have their fondest memories,” says Edwin Yap, Area General Manager of the Bayview Hotel, Penang. “Talk to any Penangite, and they will share with you their most cherished moments at the restaurant. It is a unique restaurant for families to enjoy or couples for a romantic rendezvous, savouring an excellent range of great food served with an ever-changing view.”

The Revolving Restaurant is licensed with a good selection of alcoholic drinks at very reasonable prices. The staff were very attentive and polite, ensuring our visit was a most pleasant one.
