Madame Waffle at Mid Valley: Restaurant Review
KL’s Wondrous Week of Waffles continues: The second premium waffle outlet to open in recent days is Madame Waffle, a quick-service cafe at the Mid Valley mall that promises Liege waffles with a Tokyo-inspired twist, fulfilling the brand’s tagline, ‘Belgian waffles meet Japanese flavours.’
Belgian Waffles Meet Japanese Flavours
This Malaysian-founded business has brought in a team from Tokyo & Fukuoka to craft waffles baked with flour and other ingredients sourced from Japan to capture the taste & texture of the waffles that Madame Waffle’s owners enjoyed when they travelled to the Land of the Rising Sun.
The counter showcase is teeming with temptations, encouraging customers to take away a tasty snack or sit for a spell & savour some plated waffles with ice cream & coffee – a set-up that Madame Waffle hopes to replicate in more malls eventually.
Madame Waffle currently offers seven varieties: Original (vanilla-infused with pearl sugar), matcha (made with Kyoto green tea powder), Belgian dark chocolate, white chocolate, coffee, honey & cinnamon. Each piece starts at RM5.90 for the original, with the others costing between RM6.50-RM6.90.
Fresh and Fragrant
The waffles meet the mark – fresh & fragrant, well-tuned in flavour, best eaten while still warm, crisp outside & fluffy within.
Signature Green Tea Waffle
Waffle combos available for a light, refreshing teatime treat (in between shopping or after catching a movie) include the signature green tea waffle with matcha gelato by Gelatomio, strawberries, whipped cream & azuki beans (RM16).
Coffee Waffle with Tiramisu Gelato
And the coffee waffle with tiramisu gelato, coffee-whipped cream & strawberries. There’s also another version with Nutella, bananas & double chocolate gelato, glazed with Belgian chocolate, which sounds like quite a rich partnership.
Speaking of coffee, piccolo lattes aren’t an afterthought here – the cafe has secured well-respected barista Chye Yuan Feng to oversee its coffee, prepared with beans roasted by W Espresso Sporting Club in Johor, where Chye previously plied his trade.
Hot Matcha Lattes
Espressos start at RM7.50 here, with piccolo lattes at RM9.50 & dark chocolate mochas at RM10.50; customers can also check out hot matcha lattes with a surprise at the bottom: azuki beans (RM11).
