This review is brought to you in part by Kakigori Pavilion.

Kakigori’s third outpost is now open in Pavilion, perfectly in time to beat KL’s latest heatwave, bringing the coolest Japanese desserts to the city centre. This branch bears the signature tones and textures that’ll be instantly recognisable to fans of Kakigori in Taman Paramount and The Gardens Mall, with the added advantage of a more spacious, wide-open layout, ideal for a soothing break in between shopping and strolling.

All time favourites

All the Kakigori favourites are available here – shaved ice specialities in flavours like elderberry and elderflower espuma, hojicha, chestnut milk and uji matcha brulee (RM16-RM19), as well as monthly specials like October’s Halloween treat of strawberry kakigori, layered with strawberry compote and black sesame espuma, topped with a cute ghost meringue. The latest addition to the menu is omugi soup – Japanese barley broths, served thick and hot, mixed with a choice of matcha ice cream or adzuki beans, with accompaniments of either matcha kanten cubes or shiratama dango dumplings (RM15/RM18). Both varieties are worth trying; the first is sweet and refreshing, the second tastes traditional and comforting. You’ll also find custard puddings, soft serves, melonpan and more, with beverage possibilities including a perky sparkling elderflower and grapefruit drink. Many thanks to the Kakigori team for having us.
