Gula Cakery at Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam: Snapshot

Gula Cakery is a family effort in the fullest sense: High-profile baker Arieni Ritzal creates the seductive cakes that beckon customers (choices might include Pandan Gula Melaka, Lemon Curd Coconut & Toffee Crunch Cheese, many at RM13 per slice), her brother Adrien designed the cafe (a child-friendly, pretty-in-pastel space with shades of Adrien’s work at other eateries), & their parents prepare hot meals for lunch & dinner (the selection changes everyday, but chances are you’ll find Mom’s laksa lemak – a reinterpretation of Johor laksa – & lamb keema pies from an independent supplier, for RM15 or less).
