This review is brought to you in part by GG Seafood.

Inspired by a recipe that GG Seafood’s chef soaked up in the Chinese coastal city of Qingdao, this new restaurant’s signature offering is perfect for patrons who love the bounty of the ocean and the rivers.

Seafood party

Dubbed the ‘Seafood Party,’ each pan surfaces at the table brimming with a choice of Asian sea bass (siakap) or grouper (kerapu) at the centre, surrounded by a bevy of tender freshwater prawns, tiger prawns, cuttlefish and clams, in steaming-hot broths that showcase flavours like Original, Pickled Mustard, Garlic or Tomato, some sweetened further with splashes of Chinese liquors, served in spicy or non-spicy variations.

Ideal for gatherings of families and friends – we slurped up everything to the end, throwing in some ramen for extra carbs to complement our bowls of rice. The portion is substantial, with the fish conveying a firm, flaky smoothness, buoyed by standouts like the succulent freshwater prawns and scores of clams, in broths that prove enjoyably mellow. The siakap costs RM69 for the fish only or RM139 for the seafood party, while the kerapu is RM99 for the fish and RM169 for the party.

Snacks

A consistent stream of customers on a Sunday night is testimony to GG’s appeal – be sure to order some side snacks; the chicken wings (RM12.90 for three), Taiwanese fried chicken (RM12.90 for three) and salted egg mini cuttlefish (RM14.90) are crisp, juicy and flavour-loaded, making the trip to Kepong worthwhile even on their own. Thanks to GG Seafood for having us.
